it is a struggle to plan and organize a well rounded program in youth ministry as summer is coming up. we are currently trying to weigh cost, versus program opportunities. we have a summer camp opportunity and a missions trip that we want to plan, but the reality of the cost presents a problem. it is likely that to be involved in both trips might cost nearly $1000.

that's a lot.

the large consensus is to just do the camp, but we don't want to leave out missions. local missions are important and should be a priority. it is possible that the mission committee or others might help with the cost. fund raisers are another option, but sometimes don't really add the support needed for a lot work involved. a lot of the kids are connected to the camp and it is generally well attended. now, that of course isn't necessarily the right reason to go. but it does present a good message and it seems they take a lot out of it. as one volunteer has put it, "camp is self focused and missions are others focused."

it seems that there is no apparently right answer. each answer presents another problem.
